The role

Head of Economic Development and Regeneration
Circa £65k (may be more depending on skills and experience)

In this senior role, you will lead, motivate and develop the Economic Development and Regeneration team, ensuring the delivery of economic growth outcomes for North Worcestershire. It is an opportunity to influence at a strategic level, drive project and programme delivery and see a visible impact across three councils.

We are looking for an individual who can think commercially and maximise every opportunity for inward investment. You will represent the interests of all three districts, building a compelling narrative around prosperity, growth, skills and investment that is based on measurable data and return on investment. Through a network of public, private and third sector partners, you will promote the delivery of the service, explore external funding opportunities and identify new investment opportunities. A successful approach to communications and marketing will be critical to carrying the service forward.

At the same time, this is about more than simply promoting North Worcestershire as a place of growth and opportunity. You will also take the lead in delivering specific projects. Working closely with Local Enterprise Partnerships, you will understand business needs and impact on the skills agenda, as well as leading on property development and engaging in major regeneration initiatives. There is huge scope here to think strategically – yet also make your mark by delivering valuable, complex and large-scale infrastructure projects.

About you

Working across three councils, and having an impact both locally and regionally, the key to your success in this role will be your relationship building at a senior management level. You must have a proven track record at the heart of a complex, multi-faceted organisation, building effective working relationships with partners to achieve visible economic development outcomes.

Supporting this relationship building will be your capability to formulate commercial strategy. Experience of delivering tangible projects that require innovative solutions is essential, preferably projects that drive inward investment, create jobs or stimulate economic growth. You must have a sound understanding of development finance, underpinned by in-depth knowledge of commercial project viability principles and strong budgetary management skills. An established capability to drive large-scale project and programme delivery is absolutely vital, with a real awareness of what projects need to accomplish make a real impact on the ground.

Most importantly, you will be able to think creatively, innovate and inspire a similar approach in others. You will be able to articulate project goals, engage key stakeholders, prepare persuasive presentations and lead on new initiatives. Politically aware, you will be credible, clear and knowledgeable, with the diplomacy and communication skills to engage a variety of audiences and groups: elected Members, business stakeholders, public sector partners and the public.

Note: The Head of Economic Development and Regeneration will be employed by Wyre Forest District Council.
